Our first community request: a rider wanted the kind of realistic horse mod Java players have had for years, on Bedrock. So we built one. LLS Equestrian adds a Riding Horse that walks, trots, canters and gallops on real footfalls, in eleven breeds and coats worked out from real horse genetics. And it’s a horse you keep: you brush it, feed it, shoe it, nurse it when it’s ill, stable it at night, breed it and train it.
RidingFour real gaits, and wind instead of a stamina bar.
Saddle up and double-tap forward to step up a gait: walk, trot, canter, gallop. Tap back to step down, hold back from a stop to rein back, let go to slow and stop. On a controller or touch stick, a light push walks and a full push builds up on its own, but the gallop always needs the double-tap, so you never bolt by accident.
- Wind, not a stamina bar. A gallop lasts about ten seconds, then the horse drops back, blows and flicks its ears, and tells you when it’s ready to go again
- A second seat for a friend behind you. Only the owner drives
Eleven breedsEach with its own build and its own way of going.
| Breed | What it’s like |
|---|---|
| Quarter Horse, Paint, Appaloosa | compact stock horses; the all-rounders |
| Thoroughbred | tall and lean; the fastest gallop |
| Arabian | small and fine, tail carried high; the most stamina |
| Warmblood | big and athletic; the best jumper |
| Friesian | always black, feathered, high knee action |
| Gypsy Vanner | a stocky cob, heavy feathering, showy action |
| Clydesdale, Belgian Draft | big drafts, slow and powerful; never tire pulling |
| Shetland Pony | short legs, a big head, short busy strides |
Coats from real genetics18 colours, plus dapples, roan, pinto and spots. Foals inherit them.
Bay, chestnut, black, palomino, buckskin, cremello, the duns, grulla and more, with dapple grey,
roan, pinto or appaloosa patterns and face and leg white on top. Every horse carries real genes,
so a black horse can secretly carry chestnut and pass it on. Look at a horse and run
/scriptevent llseq:genes for its breed, coat, sex, age, genes and ancestry.
Show tack, piece by pieceSaddle, bridle, pad, wraps, bonnet and blanket, each dyed separately.
Every piece goes on separately: right-click the horse with it, or crouch and drag it into the horse’s own screen. Pads, wraps, bonnets and blankets come white and take any of the 16 dyes at a crafting table; the saddles and bridle come in their own leather.
Saddle (English or Western) · Bridle · Saddle Pad · Leg Wraps · Ear Bonnet · Turnout Blanket
The blanket keeps off rain and mud. With LLS Seasons, a horse out in winter without one feels the cold, and one left in it in summer sun overheats until you take it off.
The Horse DealerHorses don't spawn wild. He sells them every other day.
He comes every other day, 8am to 8pm, and sets up a short walk from your bed. Every breed comes as a mare or a stallion, tame and yours.
| He sells | Emeralds |
|---|---|
| Shetland Pony | 24 |
| Quarter Horse, Paint, Appaloosa | 32 |
| Thoroughbred, Clydesdale, Belgian Draft | 40 |
| Arabian, Warmblood | 44 |
| Friesian, Gypsy Vanner | 48 |
He also sells saddles, bridles, pads, wraps, bonnets, a brush, the Horse Whistle and the Breeding Certificate.
Breeding and foalsA signed certificate, a mare in foal, and a foal that grows into its legs.
Use a Breeding Certificate on your stallion, then give the signed certificate to your mare. When she’s due, a filly or colt arrives beside her with its coat and breed from both parents. It starts all legs, stays near its mother, plays with other foals, and can be ridden once it’s grown. Crosses get their real names: Appendix Quarter Horse, Anglo-Arab, Pony Cross and so on.
| On its own | With LLS Seasons | |
|---|---|---|
| Mares take | any time | spring and summer only |
| In foal | 2 days (~40 min of play) | 26 days |
| Growing up | 5 days | 56 days, two years |
Care, bond and the stableBrush it, feed it, pick its hooves, and it comes home at dusk.
- Bond (0 to 10) grows with daily brushing, treats from your hand and riding together, and unlocks how much of its genes your horse reaches
- Grime builds from rain, mud, rolling and hard work; a brush or a swim cleans it off
- Hooves grow and wear: pick them daily, rasp them about every eight days, shoe them for roads, or it tires sooner and gets thrush
- Stalls are wherever you lay straw or shavings. At dusk your horses walk to the nearest bedding and bed down; muck out the droppings with a Muck Fork, and the manure composts
- Troughs for feed and water: at noon your horses walk over, eat and drink. Two side by side join into a double that holds three times as much
Illness and the vet kitCoughs, thrush, lameness and colic. Nothing is fatal.
Horses fall ill now and then, mostly when they aren’t looked after. A sick horse hangs its head, and the Vet Kit reads its temperature, pulse and breathing and tells you what to do.
| Illness | Remedy, once a day |
|---|---|
| Cough | Cough Syrup, and keep it out of the rain |
| Thrush | Hoof Tincture, and pick its hooves |
| Lameness | Liniment, and rest |
| Colic | Colic Drench, then walk it for a minute |
At worst a horse is laid up and can’t be ridden until it’s treated. Foals don’t fall ill.
TrainingYour horse levels up as you ride it, from Green to Elite.
Two skills level up: Speed (a gallop up to about 20% faster, so it covers more ground) and Jump (from about 2.5 blocks up to about 4.5). The levels are Green, Started, Schooled, Seasoned, Advanced, Elite. Each skill gains at most one level a day, then stops counting until tomorrow. Training never fades, and breeding sets the ceiling: a Thoroughbred makes a racer and a Warmblood a jumper.
| Riding | Earns |
|---|---|
| Galloping | Speed, a level in 2 minutes; half as fast again within 3 blocks of a barrel |
| Cantering, or trotting over ground poles | Speed, a quarter as fast as galloping |
| Any real jump (1.25 blocks or higher) | Jump, 4% of a level; 8% over a jump pole |
- Lunging: a Lunge Line and Lunge Whip work your horse in a circle round you. It trains Speed up to Schooled; Seasoned and up are earned in the saddle. Lunging and riding share the one Speed level a day
- Arena gear: jump poles (set low, medium or high), ground poles, cavaletti, barrels and cones
- Round pen: one kit puts up a 19-block pen; turn your horse loose, crack the whip, and it works the rail by itself for about six minutes, training at half the lunge line’s pace
Calling and finding your horseA whistle for close by, a radar for anywhere.
The Horse Whistle brings your nearest horse within about 96 blocks cantering over. The Horse Radar pairs to one horse and points the way, out to 256 blocks and beyond; a blinking amber dot marks where it was last seen when its part of the world isn’t loaded.
