October 2026 dev log, part three: phones, Equestrian 0.2.1 and Bedrock 26.60
Phone players hit lag with the carriages, so every vehicle got lighter textures with the same look. Horses stop flashing as a different horse when they spawn, test builds are back for a small Discord group, and everything runs on Bedrock 26.60.
Part two ended with Equestrian 0.2.0 going up on the site and me saying updates would slow down. They did, for about a day.
25 and 26 October: phones
0.2.0 was out for barely a day when the phone reports started coming in. Carriages, wagons and the horse box made phones lag, and the low-memory ones got it worst. Every vehicle was drawn on 1024-pixel textures, and together they came to about 700 MB of memory. That’s more than a lot of phones have to spare for a whole world.
This is where I lost the most time. My first size check counted the whole project folder, backups and reference files included, and I went chasing files that never even ship. Only the download itself counts. Now I only measure what’s in the .mcaddon.
The fix had to keep everything as it was: every breed, every model, the same look. So the vehicle textures went down to 512 and 768 pixels, painted to match. On a monitor I can’t tell the difference, and on a phone it’s the difference between the game running or not.
A second bug turned up while I was in there. A horse you’d just bought, or a foal that had just been born, showed up as a plain Quarter Horse for a moment before its own coat came in. Its look is set the moment it spawns now, so you only ever see the right horse.
For 0.2.0 I’d said there would be no Discord test build. That was for that release only. With phones breaking, test links are back for a small group in the Discord, so a fix gets tried on real phones before everyone downloads it.
26 October: 0.2.1 is out
Equestrian 0.2.1 went up that evening, and the Farm Sim Pack 0.6.8 with it:
- Carriages, wagons and the horse box use far less memory, so phones stop lagging with them.
- New horses no longer show up as a different horse for a moment.
- A horse in a work harness can be led on a lead.
- A tied horse stands straight instead of leaning or standing crooked.
Two phone problems are still open. Driving can freeze for a moment on some phones (my main suspect is the surrey), and getting off a cart can make only the cart jump. Both are on the list for the next update.
27 October: Bedrock 26.60
Minecraft updated to 26.60 and I played my Farm Sim world on it the same day: the pack, Equestrian inside it, the Decor, the clothes, EZ Miner and Farm Bosses. Everything works. The pages say “Tested on Bedrock 26.60” now. The Magic add-ons stay on 26.52 until I’ve played them on the new version too, because that line only goes up once I’ve actually played on it.
On the site, someone typed a made-up mod name into a download link, and the counter gave it a counter of its own. The counter only counts real mods now, and the file still downloads either way. The front page also shows everyone’s downloads added up, and that number is past 3,800.
What’s next
- The Shire, the big feathered draft, which you’ve been asking for.
- Jump poles in more colours, not just red and white.
- The two phone fixes above.
- Then the list from part two: livestock models, vendor looks, real prices with the community, and my first long video.
